Encounter with the Eshkol-Wachman Movement Notation

Noa Eshkol

Screening

6 – 8 pm
Vleeshal (Map)

In eight short chapters this television show from 1976 introduced the audience to the Eshkol-Wachman Movement Notation system. It showed how this system can be read and used. Between each chapter a short, demonstrative dance – performed by the Noa Eshkol Chamber Dance Group featuring Ruth Sela, Shmuel Zaidel, and Rachael Nul-Kahana – interluded the talks with Moshe Feldenkrais, John G. Harris, I. Golani and many others.

The screening doesn't only emphasis groundbreaking elements of this new narrative language, it also shines a light on some remarkable figures that Noa Eshkol worked with and who helped to explore the system's boundaries, distribute its use or simply – like many of the kids who joined for the educational workshops – play around with it.

Mor Bashan, head of research at the Noa Eshkol Foundation and a member of the Noa Eshkol Chamber Dance Group, introduced the film and illuminated certain sections. Afterwards, a short clip in which Noa Eshkol talks about her work to an audience, is also shown.
