Vleeshal Center for Contemporary Art in Middelburg, the Netherlands, is seeking a Business and Development Manager as of January 19, 2026 The position is 32 hours per week. Applications are due 12 November.
The Business and Development manager ensures the business flow, growth and support of the fundraising and funds management activities at de Vleeshal. The Business and Development manager forms a part of the core team, with management responsibilities. The role involves responsibility for administrative handling of subsidy applications, account-management of key stakeholders and private supporters, as well as support in financial control and oversight. The Business and Development manager will maintain and expand a network of relevant external contacts, in support of the Executive Director and in collaboration with the executive team.
The Business Director monitors follow-up and compliance with goals and agreements made with stakeholders, and for the three sector Codes (Governance, Fair Practice, Diversity & Inclusion). The Business and Development Manager also supports in the editing of organizational texts, as well as in the execution of key strategic initiatives such as the ‘Vleeshal Friends’ and related programs aimed to grow the profile of the organization.
The appointment is for one year with the intention to extend. De Vleeshal is a non-profit foundation with a staff of 7.24 FTE, an extensive network of freelance colleagues, and an annual budget principally supported by the Ministry for Education and Culture (OCW) and Gemeente Middelburg.
Requirements
The candidate (Business and Development Manager) has demonstrable development, financial, and managerial experience; is strategic, decisive, and empathetic; understands artistic practice; and can listen to the interests and wishes of the team, artists, and the Executive Director.
The Business and Development Manager:
- has demonstrable experience with fundraising and building sustainable networks, and can secure income and donations independently;
- brings an open, entrepreneurial, and solution-oriented mindset, working in a structured and analytical way;
- has financial acumen and is comfortable with basic bookkeeping and administration;
- takes an inclusive and collaborative approach, acting as a team player and connector;
- is knowledgeable about contemporary visual art and culture;
- communicates clearly and effectively in both spoken and written Dutch;

Terms of Employment
Vleeshal offers a salary based upon relevant experience. There is a pension scheme, and entitlement to vacation days as well as holiday and sports allowance.
