For the third edition of Rooms of Now, the young Dutch artist Afra Eisma was invited by Vleeshal to create an artistic intervention in the house of the Verhaagen family on the Groenmarkt 3. Eisma’s sculptures and installations are colourful and energetic. Although Eisma employs traditional techniques and materials – such as embroidery and ceramics – she uses them in an unconventional way.

The intervention by Eisma consisted of a combination of existing and new work. The centerpiece of the presentation was a brightly coloured "tufted’" rug, made especially for the living room of the house and which was commissioned by Vleeshal. "Tufting" is a type of textile weaving from the 1950’s, which is used to make high pile carpets. In her ceramic works Eisma experiments with glazings and forms, which often results in extraordinary objects. In the house the works were integrated in the existing interior, where they claimed their place among the rest of the stuff, as odd figures.

Eisma’s intervention was officially opened on Sunday September 29th in the presence of the artist. On the first Sunday of October (06.10.) and November (03.11.) the house was also open for visitors.
