Oemoemenoe: Loverendale Pastorale
Anh Trần
In collaboration with Loverendale Ter Linde and CANTATEKⱯRAVAAN
28 – 30 August 2026
Loverendale, Oostkapelle
Curator: Laurens Otto

Anh Trần will present a new body of work on the Loverendale farm, a site established in 1926 and shaped by queer modernist art history and early biodynamic farming. The work will be presented during the weekend of 28–30 August 2026, as part of Loverendale’s celebration of their 100-year existence, looking ahead to what can be the future of biodynamic agriculture. Throughout the weekend, Cantatekaravaan will present various concerts of cantatas, notably by Johann Sebastian Bach, in dialogue with the rural setting.
Biodynamic agriculture understands the farm as a living organism in which soil, plants, animals, food production, and human life are interconnected. The origins of Loverendale Ter Linde, the Netherlands’ oldest biodynamic farm, lie in an artistic commune formed through the close connection between art patron Marie Tak van Poortvliet (1871-1936) and painter Jacoba van Heemskerck (1876-1923). The couple welcomed artists including Piet Mondrian and Wassily Kandinsky to the farm, where the painting of light inspired developments towards abstraction. Vleeshal invites Anh Trần (1989, born in Bến Tre, Vietnam, and based in Berlin) to realize a new body of work that responds to Jacoba van Heemskerck’s legacy and other artists tied to that history of abstraction.
Anh Trần (1989, born in Bến Tre, Vietnam, and based in Berlin) paints vibrant abstract paintings to interrogate her insider-outsider status as a Vietnamese artist working within a Western canon. While living a diasporic experience, her aesthetic language underlines her interest in the linguistic differences between Western and South-Eastern countries’ artistic methods, in their closeness to situated political strategies.

Series
For Vleeshal’s site-specific series Oemoemenoe [An expression from Zeeland for “how should we proceed now?”], artists are invited to develop a project in collaboration with local associations and businesses in Zeeland, such as a sports club, an airport, or a farm. Contemporary art is connected to various special places in Zeeland, where artists provide possible directions on which way to go.
