For the second edition of Oemoemenoe, Myrthe van der Mark brought the performance series at this height, but not yet in its fullness to Zeeland Airport near Arnemuiden.

Myrthe van der Mark works at the intersection between visual art and performance. She unites a variety of media and disciplines in her work, with a focus on performance, sculpture, and video. She uses actions and objects to spark direct, personal associations and wants to highlight a specific context. During her interventions, she expresses both present and absent elements, exploring and investigating different forms of communication.

Commissioned by Vleeshal and in collaboration with Zeeland Airport, Myrthe van der Mark presented the performance at this height, but not yet in its fullness, inspired by the existing elements at the airport. The choreography partly took place on the runway of the airport, intriguingly intertwining specific processes of communication, maintenance, and language in a dynamic game of movement.

The performance took place on November 25 during the ‘golden hour’ from 3.45 to 4.45 pm at Zeeland Airport.

Commission

Series

For Vleeshal’s site-specific series Oemoemenoe [An expression from Zeeland for “how should we proceed now?”], artists are invited to develop a project in collaboration with local associations and businesses in Zeeland, such as a sports club, an airport, or a farm. Contemporary art is connected to various special places in Zeeland, where artists provide possible directions on which way to go.

Vleeshal is an internationally oriented center for contemporary art, rooted in Zeeland. In Zeeland Focus, Vleeshal highlights regional artists, takes part in and celebrates local contemporary art and culture.

This project is made possible by the Mondriaan Fund.
