Amsterdam Art Weekend | Martina-Sofie Wildberger

During Amsterdam Art Weekend 2019, Vleeshal presented the performance I/WANT/TO/SAY/SOMETHING by Martina-Sofie Wildberger at project space ROZENSTRAAT – a rose is a rose is a rose.

In her work Wildberger focuses on the power of spoken text. In the performance, three performers, including Wildberger, loop the words I/WANT/TO/SAY/SOMETHING in different rhythms, intensities, and spatial configurations. They examine how meaning changes through the tone of their voices and their physical interaction with the space, creating an environment that can be calm, loud, alarming, solitary, or comfortable. Always connected to each other, at times the performers speak together and at other times alone. In this collective act of speaking, they maintain an individual voice that explores different situations where language creates, transforms, and sometimes loses its power.
