Public program On Water, Flow and Warped Time | Maud van den Beuken

On August 31, 2024 you could join us for the public program of the exhibtion On Water, Flow and Warped Time. Artist Maud van den Beuken developed a special three-part program in which we studied the boundaries between water and land. During this program, entitled River Seminar: River is Fish, Cloud, Stone, she explored contemporary definitions of the river and its water management.

For River Seminar: River is Fish, Cloud, Stone, van den Beuken presented her book TITLES Where the river is during a lecture performance. This book is an archive of van den Beuken's notes, sketches, preparations, registrations and thought experiments that she collected over the course of a year. During this time, she was a resident at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht for 11 months.

The program consisted of three parts: a lecture performance, a walk along the canal through Walcheren, and an interview with artist Theun Karelse who played the role of a non-human entity for this conversation. During this afternoon we practiced with artistic and scientific tools to give the river a voice.

Vleeshal is an internationally oriented center for contemporary art, rooted in Zeeland. In Zeeland Focus, Vleeshal highlights regional artists, takes part in and celebrates local contemporary art and culture.

Education is of great importance to Vleeshal. Its educational program accompanying the exhibitions is twofold. Firstly, for each child who visits the exhibition there is an educational assignment available at the counter. This assignment is based on the child's perception of the world. Secondly, Vleeshal organizes educational workshops for both primary school and secondary education. This workshop consists of a receptive part in which the schoolchildren or students view and discuss the exhibition, and a reflective part with a processing assignment.

If you want to book an educational workshop, you can contact us at office@vleeshal.nl.
