Vleeshal (Map)

A huge white block - 24 meters long, 1.2 meters wide, 3 meters high - that is in disharmony with its surroundings. The situation is in no way explained by the architectural rhetoric of the hall and is merely the result of an intention to mark the real north on a topographical plane by means of a sculptural form. As such, the disruption of the spatial balance is the consequence of another work shown, the so-called Film Installation. There the artist (on the film) is doing to an empty Vleeshal this reel north with the help of a compass. In the presence of a visitor, he then absolutes the options given by the tiled floor, making it part of a geometric plane.
