With his video work 'Memento Mori', specially made for the Vleeshal (and selected for the Johannesburg Biennale), Kendell Geers moves on the border between painting and video art. Like contemporary fresco paintings, the projected video images move over the ceilings and walls of the Vleeshal. However, these images do not move in the narrative sequence of the film story, but vibrate in the frozen moment of the "still". The vibrations are not constant but change in unpredictable rhythms, and in a parallel movement the image changes from abstract to figurative. Sometimes it's purely color, then again structure and then again flowing into a performance. 'Memento Mori', in which our modern attitude is exposed to death.
