On December 8, 2016 Vleeshal hold a special event to celebrate the launch of a new publication, Painting Behind Itself, which documents Melissa Gordon’s ongoing Blow Up Modernists and Material Evidence series of paintings, as well as Vleeshal's recent acquisition of Gordon’s work Material Evidence (Wall Cropping I & II). The diptych acquired by Vleeshal was produced by Gordon for her solo exhibition Routine Pleasures. Vleeshal Director Roos Gortzak introduced the publication, which includes an interview between Gortzak and Gordon, and Melissa Gordon read an essay titled Luxury Goods that she especialle wrote for this event. The essay is about the relationship between gesture and value.
During the event Roos Gortzak also discussed Vleeshal's collection – of which Gordon’s acquisition is a new addition – and presented the most recent issue of the magazine Zeeuws Tijdschrift which has been dedicated entirely to Vleeshal’s collection. Director Roos Gortzak was handed the first issue of this magazine by the King’s Commissioner of Zeeland, Han Polman, at the Zeeuwse Boekenprijs 2016.
The publication Painting Behind Itself is sold out.
