Antoine Mes, 'Het Zeeuwse Landschap', exhibition view, 2003 | Het Zeeuwse Landscap | Antoine Mes

Zeeland’s Landscape in De Kabinetten van de Vleeshal was a presentation of paintings bij Middelburg artist Antoine Mes. The exhibition was a retrospective of Mes’ work, featuring both early and more recent works. The characteristic feature of Middelburg artist Antoine Mes` paintings is the high positioning of the horizon, highlighting Zeeland`s farming lands. But while Zeeland’s landscape is easily recognizable in Mes` early paintings, the more recent works consist solely of austere lines and squares. And yet, proceding from his earlier works, Mes` abstract landscape is clearly identifiable.
