In this series Blokland examines the influence of the context of images on their meaning. Neutrals, in De Kabinetten van De Vleeshal featured (among other things) manipulated images from Blokland’s family album.

In Neutrals Sara Blokland explored to what extent the identity and meaning of existing images can later be manipulated. In De Kabinetten van De Vleeshal Blokland displayed photographs and videos of her family. By isolating details and subsequently enlarging or blurring them, Blokland had radically changed the meaning of the images. The manipulated fragments seem to be significant details of insignificant photographs; an innocuous family snapshot becomes a sinister scene.
