An exhibition of 2000 water colours and paintings by Middelburg artist Marenne Welten in De Kabinetten van De Vleeshal.
Marenne Welten’s multi-layered portraits and figures reflect her astute observations. These are often highly individual: in Welten’s work body parts have often lost their usual shape. Yet her portrayal of her physical sensations, a bloody nose for instance, is instantly recognizable. And so a woman walking with her head in a cloud precisely captures that haze that can paralyse us first thing in the morning.
