Jimmie Durham – The Centre of the world
The SBKM has been collecting contemporary art for over thirty years.
Initially, the SBKM chiefly acquired works by local artists. This changed in the mid 1990’s. Since then, the collection has gradually been extended with works by (inter)national artists exhibiting at De Vleeshal.
Since opportunities to put this collection on public display are few – and as the SBKM considers exhibition to be central to building and maintaining its own bank of artworks, the De Vleeshal collection has been given on long-term loan to the M HKA in Antwerp.
