At the invitation of Vleeshal, Jumping Fences, an exhibition project focusing on artistic development and collective curatorship by a group of students of KASK Curatorial Studies, is coming to Middelburg. In this project, artists, designers and curators experiment with exhibition frameworks. In February 2024, Jumping Fences opened at Het Paviljoen in Ghent, and since then a different artist or designer has been shown every month responding to the work of the previous person. At Vleeshal, all participants of Jumping Fences come together at the same time. Not just two pearls but the whole chain can be seen here.
Jumping Fences features work by Haron Barashed & Lore Janssens, Sjoerd Beijers, Céleste Buyle & Quinten Vermeulen, Yawen Fu, Seppe-Hazel Laeremans, Paola Siri Renard and Jan Vandeplancke. At Vleeshal, several works will come together and hint at what was on view at Het Paviljoen and what is yet to come.

Team V is a group of young people organizing a public program for each Vleeshal exhibition. For our current exhibition ‘Jumping Fences’, we invite you to join us at Vleeshal on May 17, from 7:30 to 10pm for a performance by Céleste Buyle and a ceramics workshop by Zahar Bondar.
With this public program for ‘Jumping Fences’, Team V wants to include visitors from all ages and places who are ready to break down barriers or to ‘jump the fence’ between themselves and the others. It explores themes such as memory, nostalgia, comfort and introspection, while creating an all-emerging ambiance tailored for a meditative state. This evening consists of two parts. A kettle performance by Céleste Buyle connected to the work she is presenting in the ‘Jumping Fences’ exhibition, and a ceramics workshop, led by artist Zahar Bondar, in which we will make our own tea cups.
Vleeshal started its new educational program ‘Team V’ in March 2024, in which 6 young, diverse, and creative individuals with a passion for contemporary art are coached and consulted by the Vleeshal team and learn about all aspects of working in a professional art institution. They get the stage to create their own public programs, bringing in different perspectives from a younger generation.
Participation is free. Click this link to register for the ceramics workshop.

From time to time Vleeshal invites guest curators to organize exhibitions in the Vleeshal or to develop other projects. By doing so, we aim to welcome new perspectives and contribute to talent development.
Jumping Fences is a collaboration between Vleeshal, KASK & Conservatorium (HOGENT – Howest), Het Paviljoen and Curatorial Studies.
